Tir Chonaill Gaels continued their winning start to the new season with victory over the Parnells in the Tipperary cup at a blustery Northwick park last Sunday.
Both teams found it difficult to settle into the game with no score in the opening ten minutes but step up the returning JP Boyle who fired over the first two points against the wind.
London minor star Liam Gavaghan showed he is maturing into a top player with a goal midway through the half after a fine move involving Damian Houston and John Collins. Parnells replied with a point from centre forward Richie Dempsey but that was to be their final score of the half with TCG adding further points from Friel, Collins, Housten and Gavaghan to leave the half time score 1-6 to 0-1.
The second half seen a more urgent Parnells up the tempo with scores from Ryan 0-1, Murray 0-1 and Dempsey 0-1 with signs of a comeback on the horizon were halted with a Keith Morrow goal in the 43rd minute.
Both sides exchanged points in the next ten minutes but it was the talented Gavaghan who was to finally put an end to any comeback with his second goal in the final five minutes and give himself a personal tally of 2-3.
For the winners, a solid days work in defence for Paddy Callaghan and Niall Travers,
Declan Alcorn and Brendan Friel dominated the midfield while up front JP Boyle, John Collins and Liam Gavaghan excelled.
The Parnells corner back James Mannion tried hard while up front Richard Dempsey, David O Sullivan and Sean Russell were lively.
